In the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century the apothecary shop functioned in a room parallel to the main square, that provided customers with easy access. The main door was flanked by two display windows and the facade bore the rapidly changing signs of the Hintz pharmacy. Inside, there was an impressive set of ornate cabinets against the walls, a large counter and numerous chairs for people to wait comfortably and socialize. The room also opened towards the inside of the house, to the pharmacist's office (the old Officina) and the laboratory. After the pharmacy was nationalized in 1949, town planning demanded the widening of pedestrian access in the area and in the end of the 1950s half of the new Officina was cut off and turned into a passage. The remaining half is the entrance area to the museum today.
