The first Renaissance architectural element in the city of Cluj is the portal lintel of Bernardus Piktor's house, located on Podului Street (now Regele Ferdinand Street). According to the inscription, it dates back to 1514, placing this piece not only among the earliest preserved Renaissance monuments of Cluj but also of Transylvania. It presents an interesting example of how the year was written, combining Roman numerals crafted in the style of Arabic numerals. The lintel's inscription, characterized by the use of several ligatures, commemorates the fact that the piece was carved during the reign of Voivode John of Szapolyai, following the suppression of the peasant revolt led by György Dózsa.
