29. Tabernacle, Former Reformed Church, Coveș (Sibiu County), 1537

The tabernacle was acquired by the Numismatic and Antiquities Collection in 1915 from the Board of Directors of the Reformed Diocese, as the Reformed church had been left without parishioners. The tabernacle from the Reformed Church in Coveș is the earliest Renaissance tabernacle in Transylvania and represents the classic type of Renaissance tabernacles. The piece was commissioned by Miklós Tomori, the church's patron, who since 1534 had been the castellan of the Buda fortress. The closest analogies to this tabernacle are the two tabernacles of the parish church in Pest. The Coveș tabernacle stands out among Transylvanian examples for its complex structure and superior execution quality.
