Funerary monument; place of discovery: Potaissa (Turda, Cluj County); 2nd century AD.

Funerary monument, decorated on three of its sides. On one of the sides, we can see the image of a woman, while on the other one a kantharos is represented, with grapevines growing out of it. The inscription is on the central part, and it consists of the epitaph of Valeria Maximilla, who lived for 29 years and 7 months. The monument was ordered by her parents, Valerius Maximus, veteran, ex-centurion, and Valeria Marcellina. Alongside them, Publius Aelius Tertius, the deceased’s husband, veteran and ex-decurion, and their three children, P. Aelius Terentius, Aelia Valeria and P. Aelius Maximianus, also took part in setting up the monument.

The inscription has a high number of ligatures: RI in the name Valeria, MA in the name Maximilla, ET, AE in the word pientissimae or in Ael(ius), TI in Tertius or in Terentius. When writing numbers, the I is written slightly smaller, and when it comes to the number VII, the II is written inside the V, and much, much smaller.
