Lateral piece of a funerary aedicula, place of discovery: Napoca (Cluj-Napoca, Cluj County); 2nd century AD.
The left side of a funerary aedicula; the right side has an unfinished margin, as it served as the attachment point to the central piece, and the left edge (cantulum) is beautifully ornamented with a stylized vine. On the wall, against a hollowed-out background, the servants are portrayed attending the funeral banquet, a scene that was usually depicted on the central wall of the aedicula. The man is holding a napkin on his shoulder and a cup in his hand, while the woman is holding a poculum and a patera. Between them, just below, is a panarium. The piece shows traces of red lead (minium).
