Funerary stele; place of discovery:Gilău (Cluj County); 3rd century AD.

Profiled funerary stele. The relief field is divided into two registers. The upper register shows the scene of the funeral banquet. On either side of a mensa, we see two female characters, each one on a cathedra, holding a rython. On the kline (the piece of furniture is not outlined) are the schematic busts of two characters - two children(?). The lower register depicts a horseman, walking, and in front of him is the image of a calo holding a spear in his left hand, and in his right hand, that is raised, an unidentified object. The inscription field has remained anepigraphic, although it has been lined, ready to be inscriptioned. The piece was probably never commercialized. It was painted with red lead (minium), that we see preserved throughout the monument’s surface.
