Funerary stele; place of discovery: Orăștioara de Sus (Hunedoara County); 2nd - 3rd century AD.

A rectangular niche depicts a family: a man, a woman and a girl.

The monument is dedicated to Julius Secundus, an explorer from the Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium (Köln). He died at the age of 55 after 30 years of military service. The monument is ordered by his heirs (presumably the wife and daughter depicted on the funerary monument). Exploratores and speculatores were special units in the Roman army that carried out specific tasks, including gathering information from the enemy territory.
