Funerary stele; place of discovery: Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa? (Sarmizegetusa, Hunedoara County); 2nd - 3rd century AD.
Profiled funerary stele with horseshoe-shaped niche. The discordance between the style of the sculptural elements and the writing shows that the piece was made by two different craftsmen, the one who made the inscription being much more graceless than the sculptor. The lettering of the inscription is rather crudely executed and the lines are asymmetrical. The epitaph mentions two women, Licinia Valentina who lived 60 years and Aurelia Maximina who lived 20 years, and was ordered by their husbands. The latter are related by marriage, Aurelius Maximus being the father-in-law of Aurelius Pusinnus. Aurelia Maximina is the daughter of Aurelius Maximus, whose name she bears as a derivative in the feminine form, and is also the wife of Aurelius Pusinus.
